Also.
I ate cake at Dan's birthday party today and feel like I have a migraine and a very bad stomach ache. I don't think my body is ready for huge pieces of birthday cake right now which is sad and good. Sad because I love cake and good because, well, duh, cake is not exactly on the list of superfoods.
My father in law takes a 4 mile walk 2-3 mornings a week. I live with very healthy people and it is reminding me how easy it is to be healthy when you are in a healthy environment. (Hmmm....funny how I was at my skinniest when I lived with very skinny people )
I tried his 4 mile route last night with Dan and it was awesome! I'm firing my ipod up to do it again in a few minutes all by myself since Dan has to work tonight. It took us about an hour to do the loop and it felt awesome. I have become a fan of walking lately. Not a fan of white New Balance walking shoes, but the act of walking.
I have found that if I take a 20 minute walk right after I eat my main meal, I feel amazing. I actually have been feeling quite crappy because of illness but overall, my digestive health feels so much better if I take a brisk walk after eating.
Ever wonder where the fat people are in NYC? Ever wonder why LDS missionaries come home super skinny if they had to walk everywhere? I think walking can be an excellent way to just keep your blood sugar stable, your mind alert, and to help your body digest food.
I have no medical proof to back this up, but I'm convinced an hour walk a day will do me a lot of good. I have also decided strength training helps you lose weight, cardio machines don't, and overall exercise doesn't promote steady weight loss. Don't shoot me.
I have lots of friends who are p90x lovers, and even I can bear testimony of hardcore exercising and I think it's an important element in any weight loss program. HOWEVER. I believed for a long time that I could eat whatever I wanted and still lose weight as long as I exercised. I realize now how wrong I was! I am convinced that weight loss is 80% related to what you EAT, and 20% related to your level of activity.
I have no clue where this is going other than don't get all frustrated if you work out a lot but don't focus mostly on your diet and then stay the same size. I love exercising and miss long, grueling workouts, but I am mostly focused on nutrition and light exercise for my mental well being and to sweat out whatever I can.
