Yoga was a bad idea

I think I'm really getting the hang of this program. I have been 100% and feel great. I signed up for a "fat blast" class at the rec center back in December and it starts in February. The program entails following a schedule of workouts and an eating plan and then there is prize money for the top "losers." I think I'm going to win. I told the coach lady that I am on a special eating program now and don't want to be a cheater since I'm following a similar but even more extreme eating program and she said it was still totally cool for me to participate.

Unfortunately I can't really workout the way I used to. I went to her yoga II class after the intro meeting and had such a hard time!!! It was a pretty advanced class but I felt light headed a few times and decided that the medifast people know what they're talking about when they say to lay off the exercise for 3 weeks while your body adjusts to the lower caloric intake. I am disappointed that I won't be able to give it 100% during the workouts, but I guess I can still learn from this trainer. She's quite amazing and I love her teaching style but I know I won't be able to survive her training classes on the amount of calories I'm eating right now.

It was kind of fun to listen to the other participants ask questions about healthy eating. The plan includes eating every 2-3 hours and eating small meals made up of a balance of protein, carbs, and fat (the amount is based on your height and weight.) I was reminded that I have a pretty good handle on cooking healthy, nutrient packed meals. This way of eating and cooking was completely foreign to some of these people. They were shocked when told they had to stop cooking with sour cream, cheddar, cream of (insert mushroom, chicken, etc) soup, and butter. They were asking where they would even find recipes without these ingredients.

I am by no means perfect at eating but I have been well-educated on "real healthy" vs. "fake healthy" and feel like I at least have the tools to make healthy choices. I know how deceptive labels can be- something can say "lowfat" but be loaded with sugar and refined flour. It reminded me that I really do have a lot of knowledge about being healthy and all I have to do is work on putting this knowledge into action.

  1. In a way, I think I was lucky to be raised as a "meat and potatoes" kind of girl. I am so used to a meal consisting of a piece of meat (chicken, steak, roast, whatever), a helping of at least one type of vegetable, and maybe a somewhat healthy starch like rice or potatoes. Pretty much undressed foods cooked up. I've never been into casseroles and complex dishes that call for lots of baking with extras. Although - I do have to be careful of what I put on those potatoes!
